Training

What we do, and when.

The week changes with the seasons. Through the light months we are outside — evening rides and open water at the lake. Through the dark ones we swap to strength and conditioning and turbo sessions indoors.

Always check the Facebook group before setting off. Rides get moved for weather, the pool occasionally gets taken over by a gala, and open water depends on the water quality at the lake. The members’ group is where the week’s changes are posted.

Before you come

What to bring

To the pool

Costume, goggles, a hat if you have long hair. Fins and a pull buoy are useful but the club has spares — ask the coach rather than buying anything.

To a ride

A roadworthy bike of any description, a helmet (not optional), lights if it is anywhere near dusk, a spare tube and something to eat. Mudguards make you very popular between October and April.

To the lake

Wetsuit, brightly coloured hat, goggles, and warm clothes for afterwards — you will be colder than you expect. A tow float is recommended. See the open water page for the full briefing.
