Questions
The things people ask first
Do I need to have done a triathlon?
No. A good number of our members joined having never swum in open water or ridden in a group, and some have no intention of ever racing. Turning up is the whole entry requirement.
Do I need a road bike and a wetsuit?
Not to start. Any roadworthy bike and a helmet will get you round a club ride. You will want a wetsuit for the lake, but talk to us before buying anything — somebody will have an opinion, and often a spare.
Is there a junior section?
No. Pendle Triathlon Club is an adults-only club, 18 and over. If you are looking for junior triathlon in the area, get in touch and we will point you towards a club that runs a junior section.
How fast are the club rides?
Steady. Fifteen to twenty miles at a pace that lets you hold a conversation, with a stop for coffee. The group regroups at the top of climbs, so being the slowest on the day is not a problem.
Do I need British Triathlon membership as well?
Not to train with us, but it is worth having. Club members get a discounted rate, and it includes third-party liability cover for your own training plus free entry to the day-licence fee at races. We will send you the club code when you join.
Can I come to the open water swim without joining?
Yes. The Thursday sessions at Lake Burwain are open to visiting swimmers as well as members — see the open water page for how to book.
